Salento Open 2013:Gallery
GM Horvath, Cs took clear first with 7.5/9. WGM Rudolf,Anna finished with 5.5/9.

Salento Open 2013 Rd1-GM Horvath Cs(HUN)

More on Salento
The feature game was played in the Salento Open. Here is more on Salento.

TWIC 968
GM
Horvath kept improving his position as white lost control of the position early and kept losing time with poor piece placement.

Dedijer,S (2018) - Horvath,Cs (2516)

Position 1
The position looks innocuous but white wants to plan a knight on c5. What do you recommend for black?

Greatest 501 Puzzles-GM Horvath Csaba(HUN)

Greatest 501 Puzzles-GM Horvath Csaba(Chess Evolution 2012)
My tactical play has been suffering lately so I invested in this book.

The positions are divided by difficulty but not by theme making it good for training. Overall a nice effort by GM Horvath-see his nice website too.

GM Horvath Csaba

Horvath played on the Olympiad Team in Dresden 2008.

Here is #153 from the Medium level section.

Adriatico Open 2013-GM Horvath, Cs(HUN)

TWIC 956
Black has a wide array of aggressive yet non-main line defences to choose from. The Blumenfeld Gambit is one of them. GM Horvath takes the offered pawn and calls the bluff after which black's position collapses quickly after choosing a faulty over aggressive plan.

Horvath,Cs1 (2514) - Lantini,M (2128)
Blumenfeld Gambit 7.e3[E10]
2nd Adriatico Open A Montesilvano ITA (2.1), 02.03.2013

Position 1
Black's center is the compensation for the pawn while white has a passed-a-pawn and two menacing looking bishops. What do you suggest for white now?

15...Nd7

Wednesday, March 6, 2013

This is the kind of routine GM vs non-GM win that will pass unnoticed, but has a mysterious effortless air to it. There are two major things to notice about this game.

(1)Black's formation against the London System is effective. The ..Nd7/Ne7!? development allow black to hunt Bf4 with a quick ...e5 and ..Nf5
(2)The endgame method used to exploit the bishop pair and compromised pawn structure.

Scipioni,G (2041) - Horvath,Cs (2514)
London System vs Averbakh[A40]
2nd Adriatico Open A Montesilvano ITA (1.1), 01.03.2013

Position 1
Black has many imbalances to work with in the ending.

  • The strong Bd4
  • The bishop pair
  • Active rooks
  • Better structure

What do you suggest for black now?
